Cascading down your Wishing Well

The holidays are that time of year when you reminisce. It is the good, the bad and the ugly. There is that hated question: “What are you doing now?” Then you have to make up something clever thing to make sure you are worth a damn. Then the next question: “Oh you’re graduating in the Spring; what do you want to do with an English degree and a film minor?”

So, winter break time is that time when you are supposed to be figuring it all out; catching up on your leisurely reading or that favorite TV show that you have been neglecting. This always is the good intent, but that never happens. Because then all of a sudden all your friends that you haven’t seen since high school give you a blast from your past. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing everyone that I haven’t seen in awhile, but it’s the sort of guilt that creeps up your chest. We all know the I-feel-bad-I-haven’t-kept-up-with-this-person feeling and how-did-this-get-all-awkward-all-of-a-sudden.

There is an easy explanation to this. People change. It is inevitable. I am not the same girl I was four years ago in high school. Hell, I am so different from this time last year even. The best kinds of friends are the ones who are so easy to see again and do not have that lingering effect of guilt or as if you are complete strangers now. The ones who genuinely care about not only the person you were, but respect the person that you have become. I want to believe that most of the people I have re-hung-out with over break is like this, but sometimes it’s nothing, but twitchy smiles and you know right after you leave each others’ presences you are sighing with relief.

I guess that what the Holidays are about. Not just the buying and re-gifting presents, but genuinely appreciating the moments that you get with people. Whether you see them every day or once in a red and green blue moon. Happy Holidays!!

Merry Christmas with Shirts!

Its December and we're all looking for the perfect (cheap) gift to get out loved ones and those we spend a little too much time with. If your looking for a fun, cheap gift that you don't have to leave the house to buy here is my suggestion!

T-shirts!

Its no secret that I have a bit of a obsession with T shirts, something the fashion world would disown me for, but its true. T shirts are practical and with fashionable accessories they say just as much about ones personality then a cute dress or fancy fringe shoes.

Usually I'd point you all in the direction of Teefury which has a different shirt every day for $10. But it can get frustrating if they don't offer the RIGHT shirt at the RIGHT time. So here is what I'm telling all of you. Threadless.com is having a $10 sale on their artistic and geeky shirts. Below are some of the highlights I found (and would like to see in my stocking this year.)

Hello Pum-To my- Kin!

I LOVE Fall! You know why? BEcause I love sweaters, and vests, and scarfs, and tights, and jackets. Its not so cold that I'm miserable, but chilly enough that I can cuddle into layers. LOVE IT! So needless to say I've been so excited to where all my sweaters and things. Still keeping up with the 60's love if you can't tell from my shorts in this photo shoot and my reindeer sweater. Both I bought at Forever 21, which when I walked in seemed to be in the same mood as the rest of the fashion world this season and have everything sixtiefied.(I just made that word up!)

Again, I guess my look makes me out to be a sixties glamor prep school attendant, but I freaking LOVE it! If only I had dressed like this in all those awkward years of high school .

Tell the Leaves, and I'll consider

I know I know, on my end I haven't been updating that much. But that will all change now!

So first of all, its NOVEMBER already. Which is one of my busiest months, getting ready for the next semester, nanowrimo, tests, papers, and filling out applications for all the junk I plan on doing after graduation (this spring baby!) Despite how busy I am, I still find the time to dress nice and show a little flavor for the fall. This is the complete opposite from semesters in the past where I would be so busy and tired I would just go to class in simple sweats and T-shirts.

But I digress. This fall my theme is 60's fabulous. With all the 60's influence present on Project Runway this year, my new found obsession with Xmen First Class (set in the 60's) and my heavy influx of 60's music I've been gravitating towards more 60 clothes. You can see it in my outfit of choice here, the poodle sweater, my ruffles, and off course my giant glasses.

I also really like the fact that I felt like some rich school prepster. Full outfit pictures down below! Enjoy!

Come Back as Fire

Let's talk about closets today!

I am a firm believer in Organized Clutter! This means that you know where everything is, but no one else may understand your methods-and-ways at first glance. My closet is something that needs to stay fresh. I like to keep things organized, in my own clever way. I have things grouped by what they are...dresses, long sleeves, tanks, jeans, purses, underthings, etc... I used to make sure everything was color coated, but I do not have the time to be so meticulous anymore. Although, I still make sure to use non-wire hangers, it keeps clothes less limp.

I have recently invested in organizational things. I got some under-the-bed storage systems to put all my crafty things in. I bought a purse holder that hangs in your closet. I also have a belt hook that hangs up and a rack of shoe cubbyholes that hang up. There are hooks on my wall for my jewelry. At the back of my closet, I have a sash that holds my headbands and sunglasses! It looks cute and has easy access to what I need, when I need it. I am constantly cleansing things that I don't need.

I don't want to become a hoarder or so dependent on material things, but I do take pride in making sure I look my best everyday. It helps to keep your space, room, and clothes clean. I do love the smell and warmth of laundry!

I'm very serious when it comes to clothes. Growing up with an older sister there was always a fight over "borrowing" clothes. We would catch each other wearing each others clothes and then Bitch-it out over the justifications of stealing or borrowing or asking to wear each other pieces.
Now-a-days, I'm more lenient with letting people wear my things, but I want them to ask, not take. It's all about the R-E-S-P-E-C-T, for others, yourself, and your things!

Super Supreme di-ba-be-di-oh

I still have Fall fever!

The leaves changing, scarves, tights, and all those rich jewel tones! It really puts me in the holiday mood. First, Halloween, then Turkey-day, and finally Christmas (or whatever winter festivities you partake in)! It's so exciting!

One part of this season means that it's almost NaNoWriMo time again!! NaNoWriMo means, National Novel Writing Month (ie. November)! This year Cara and I are going to write novels again and I am getting keyed up for the entire process! I have been brainstorming for a few months now, just wating for November to start!

My novel is called "Hearters" and it's a young-adult fantasy novel about a human family who lives in a world where the Hearters are second class citizens and how a series of events leads to thier family being torn apart. It's basically a story about all sorts of fantastical beings; like all the nerdy things to write about: witches, wizards, vampires, shapeshifters, beasts, and a race called the Fairen.

So, I look forward to the 50,000 word challenge! Unfortunately, I know that my schoolwork is going to become harder to keep up with and that my blogposts will become less frequent or just shorter...sorry in advance!

What I Want My Life To Be

A Day in the Life of Kelly:
Today was a great day!!
I woke up at the crack of 10ish! And then I stumbled to the coffee that I now drink every morning! I think I sing "the best part of wakin' up is Folder's in my cup" every morning. (Probably to my roomies annoyances)
Then I watched TLC, What Not to Wear - love this show!! Then we decided to photoshoot it up...I got to play in the leaves with Cara and embrace Fall-time! :D Okay, so my hair was not cooperating at all, but I embraced my wildwoman/Amazon hair and let the leaves fall where they may.
It's not all butterfilies and roses, I had to go to class; I went to Western Civilization and learned I got a B on my midterm. Not too shabby. Then I went to Technical Writing, learned a little somethin'-somethin' about Graphics and got to go home early!
When I got home I ate some of my Dad's lasagna leftovers (Yummy!) Then all my friendzies came over and we watched Project RUnway!! I am so excited for the finale next week! I hope Anya wins! ANd I love that Zoe Saldana guest starred today! Loves <3
So, that's my day!! Now, I need to get ready to buy FLorence + the Machine tickets tomorrow!!

Better Lock it, in your Pocket

This is my favorite Fall look! It might look like I'm going to a square-dance or a harvest hoedown, but I like to mix the country/floral sweetness with a bit of nerdy and edge. Hence, the big spotted black and brown glasses (or as Cara says BCGs) and the Madonna lace black gloves.

In reality, I would probably wear this if I was going out with some friends or even out dancing (probably not a farmer barn dance, but possibly...maybe some where like Pitchfork Festival, though)!

Another reason I really like this dress is the print and coloring. It is a peachy color, but has bright pops of purple, orange, and red for the floral print. If you look really close there is also little Roman-esq structured domed buildings on it too. The lace around the edges give it some frill and make it sweet, but also a bit folksy-old-fashioned!

Overall, super cute and fun to spin in circles in!

I am the Iron Batman

Pretty strange for a fashion blog to have something as casual as Tee's right? But while fashion is a statement of who you are- Generally mine tells people I like frills and girly things- when I wear my favorite comic book t shirts people now know what a total and complete geek I am. It often sparks conversations with fellow geeks or with complete strangers which I why I love my T-shirts so much.

You're Skins so Fair, it's not Fair

I'm constantly inspired by Roman and Grecian styles. One of my favorite TV series was Rome (it's 2 seasons that focus on Julius Caesar and Marc Antony = wondrous!) This love for antiquity maybe started when I watched Disney's Hercules or maybe ever since I got to build the Colosseum out of marshmallows and toothpicks in elementary school!

There is just something about the elements of Greek and Roman mythology; drapery, gold, popping colors set in marble, and intricate detailing that makes me a sucker for the classics. In the show Rome, fashion plays importnat role in setting up the scene and Invoking the Muse.

This outfit makes me think of a wearable interpretation of this. The gold flats are something that I've had for a long time and always add an extra kick (no pun intended) to any outfit. The belt is subtle and has a cute heart clasp to cinch in for the waist. The hairband is brown and braided suede chords. I'm obsessed with braided items right now!
I guess this look was my own little "Ode to a Grecian Urn," but in a contemporary way and a cute switch from the toga party boring white bed sheet.

Keep Your Head Up

Hey guys, so today I'm going to do some fashion for my all time biggest inspiration- JAPAN! Now, Japan fashion is amazing! I've studied the language and the people for my entire college career and while I was there I was impressed with how fashionable the girls were. Everyday was like a fashion show for them and shopping was amazing. (I drooled over everything.)

Things that were big over there were...
1. Fashionable skirts
2. High heels
3. and frills.

The outfit I'm wearing I bought in Japan. It is a sheer tan long sleeved and a pair of brown skirt/ shorts. People kept asking if I was wearing a skirt or pants. They are shorts but they are flowy another to come off as a skirt. AND they have pockets! - another plus.

When I was in Japan it was winter. So when I wore this outfit I were brown tights with it and the scarf I'm wearing in this picture. It can be both a winter and fall outfit. This outfit represents all that I love about Japanese fashion. It's just... well stylish. People turn their heads when I wear this on campus. (I wish Americans dressed like this all the time.)

Alleyways and Payphone Calls

This was the first "photo shoot" that I ever did. I remember thinking it was silly because I didn't want to be one of those people who take their own MySpace shots. You know the ones from above where you can see their arm and it just looks silly! I had just got a new Fujifilm camera and wanted to test the waters. So, I set the timer and just dove in. I didn't really know what I was doing, but then I realized that it is all about the clothes!

So this is from forever ago...I must have been 16 or 17. It's funny because I still have that dress, in fact I wore it this past weekend! It's awesome not only does it look good with or without a belt, but the color is great too! It's not quite white or tan, but a blend fabric and it's double layered so you don't have to worry about wearing a slip or anything underneath. (I mean except your underwear ;) I also still wear that belt! It's a "go-to" belt when I need something to pair with a skirt and blouse or pinch in a dress, since it's black it goes with everything!

Where the Light Is

It was a loverly hotty day on the Little Bit O'Heaven Farm when we took these pictures. BUt despite the Sahara-like heat I think they turned out fairley well! Cara and I bought the same skirt at the summer sidewalk sale, but when we wore them we wanted to bring our own unique styles to them. I added lots of accessories and Cara detailed her skirt with a neat graphic tee!

It's a fun skirt because it has all these colorful mini shapes that make a funky pattern and the yellow is just so striking, that you could wear a white shirt and you would still stand out. I wore this outfit on a hot day, but also I might throw it on if I wanted to go out to dinner with my friends or to go to class.

Skirt- UO

Riot Rhythm

Here is some of the last photos from my farm. Again the sun was being pretty silly that day so some photos are really dark but some turned out nice with a few touch ups.

I am actually wearing the skirt in the picture now as I type this. It is a new favorite of mine. Speckled with fun colors and a high waist. I'll take some other pictures with it to show off the variety (and variety is what we love! :D ) Kelly also has this skirt - we bought them at the same time same place because of a super sale- so pictures of her own skirt adventures will probably be posted later. The tank top I made myself by coming up with a design and bringing a blank tank top to our local T-shirt store. I really love it because it has my own personally touches on it. As you can see it is a earth smiling and holding a flower. What you CAN'T see are the words above the picture that say 世界を守る。Which means Protect the Earth in Japanese (the second language I'm learning.) That topped with a snazy sun hat and some classy looking oil barrels behind me and we had a fun photo shoot.

A closer look under the cut...

O'Children Children

This update is rather late. Sorry about that. School is about to start and it has been crazy trying to get things together. Anyway, today's outfit is a dusty jumper I bought at... you guessed it, Urban Outfitters clearance. I like this jumper because of the color mix it has. Dusty brown with lime green and orange. Yes please. It looks strangely farmer-ish. Which works great with the photos taken on my farm by Kelly. It was also remarkably hot, but I'm thinking this jumper will look cute as a winter outfit as well. Put on some grey tights, a green jacket and some high boots and I think we have a winner.

Now, the day we took these photos the sun was being temperamental and couldn't decide between hiding behind clouds or brightening our day. We did our best with the photos but they came out rather dark. I suppose I'll take some more in this jumper so you may see it better in the future. But overall I like this feel of the photos with the jumper, the trailer, and our fence.

Kids With Kicks

Hey all another week another update. Kind of back to back with Kelly's.
This is my outfit  collected and compiled from Forever 21. I adore this outfit for a number of reasons. The top is a fun and flowy flower print (is there any kind). Its one of the first flower prints I bought for myself since I’ve had a stigma against them since I was little (a little too girly for the tomboy I once was.) The skirt is tight fitting and short but it had big pockets and looks great with heels. Another outfit I can see myself wearing in New York.

The suitcase featured in the photos belonged to my grandfather. I love it because it is a classical brown leather suitcase. It doesn’t fit a lot, but it works great for road trips and one day sleep overs. Plus it makes me feel like I’ve been transported back in time.

Pumped!

Being a broke college kid means savings! There are plenty of ways to save when you are poor like me! The key is to reuse and recycle!

I like to rummage through my parents closet. I don’t just limit myself to my Mom’s side either; my Dad has some cute old vintage tees and plaid work shirts with paint splatters. He also has some really awesome belts! My Mom has so many random clothes, too. Some are from back in the day, like her leather motorcycle vest and old military uniforms. Recently, I have even taken to wearing some of her old swimsuits that are krazy prints and we also wear the same shoe size!

I am the younger sister so I grew up with hand-me-downs! We used to constantly fight over who stole what from each others' laundry basket. I still love clothes swapping and borrowing each others’ stuff. Between my friends and family, I am able to scrounge up some awesome finds!

Giving back to Thrift Stores or Goodwill, not only makes me feel good, but it also allows more room in my wardrobe. I love going to Plato’s Closet or Arizona Trading Company or vintage stores and getting money back for last year’s clothes.

This outfit was from a while ago, Cara and I had fun just dancing around taking pictures out our own front door. I would wear this outfit to go out in or even just to go shopping . The good thing about this dress is that it can be dressed up, with accessories and heels, or down, with some sneakers and socks. The color and fit are important. This dress is such a neutral color so it can be worn doing anything and also has a good fit.

No Makeup Needed

Hello again all it is a joint post today. A photo shoot Kell and I did in the past. Kelly decided to go the colorful root rocking a awesome eighties look and I went a darker route. Still these are some of my faviorte pictures because I believe this is the first photo opt me and Kelly did together. :)
I am wearing two pieces of clothes I bought on sale at Urban Outfitters. In the time that I have lived in our adorable college town I've learned few great pieces of "shopping" advice. Going to Urban's CLEARANCE side of the store is one of these things. I usually love U.O clothes, but they are much to rich for my poor college ass. So clearance it is. Everything is much more reasonable in the pricing zone and wearable no matter the season.

I can't really speak for Kelly about her clothes, but hopefully she'll input her thoughts when she finds the time. All I can say is that I love her pink glasses with the top. :>

As far as location goes, this was done in our humble apartment.  Our balcony is a excellent place for photos since we have a great oak tree as our neighbor. And the picture you can see behind me in one of the pictures is one Kelly picked out of the garbage. Amazing!

Below are a collection of the main pictures. Full body and together. Enjoy.

Show Me Your Teeth

I’m the other half! Cara and I have known each other since we were babies running around in pigtails watching Lion King. Since the little girl days, we have traded our diapers and Barbies for a slew of clothes, shoes, and a kick ass wardrobe to play dress up! (Okay...so we still play dress up!) We already parade around town taking pictures of ourselves, so we might as well blog about it. Fashion is something that I have always loved and my style is constantly going through drastic turnovers and evolutions.

Soooo it is summertime and in case you haven’t been outside for the past few months, you don’t watch the news, or have been hibernating in Alaska it is a scorcher outside! I mean dragon-inferno-flaming-firey-pits-of-hell hot. All I can think about is going swimming and sitting inside in front of the fan drinking ice cold lemonade! Luckily, I spent my first half of summer in England and have been influenced by my travels though London, Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and the Highlands. Traveling made me realize how hard it is to live out of a suitcase and now that I’m back it’s time to kick summerwear into full gear!

My new loves at the moment are pastel jumpers, braided headbands, high-waisted floral shorts, folded down boots, and my fuchsia Speedo swimsuit!

Overall, I would describe my fashion sense as an emporium where whimisical meets practicality, a menagerie of colorful confection. Someone once described my style as a mix between an old lady’s antique wardrobe and a child’s dress up box. I’m a bit crazy, but I like to take risks and keep it classy, usually.

This is me just monkeying around!

Introduction to Fashion

Hello all. Since We're trying to get this blog off the ground and flying I thought I would post some pics now instead of waiting for Wednesday. Kelly is busy editing photos from our own mini photo-shoot we did the other day. Hopefully she'll post them in a few. Until then, here is a adorable outfit I pulled together. It can be both classy and fun with a simple jack which is why I love it. And the flowers really set the shirt. The shoes I inherited from my mom.

Since this is a introduction post, I'll do a quick introduction to my style. I enjoy classy and chic looks complete with blazers and heels, but pink and frilly (vintage) dresses are often my undoing. Do those things go together?
